repurposed ladder bookshelf vintage cook books and catfood ponderings
So I had this old ladder sitting on top of one of my metal sheds out back for about ten plus years....
The other day I had hubby cut a few little shelves and screwed them to one side of the ladder...then added some paint and some new and old cookbooks....
are now on display.....
I love old cookbooks.....I really like seeing all of the "penciled in" additions and notations that cooks from the past have added to them....and I like imagining how many dysfunctional family gatherings have occurred whilst others were partaking in this or that recipe :)
When I look at old cook books I often think of my GrandPa "Whitey"....he was a fabulous cook and our holiday meals were most often at his home and we always used to go and have "Sunday Supper" with him and Grandma Ethel. Whitey always made you feel as if you were in a 5 star hotel.....he was constantly pampering and waiting on you and basically forcing you to eat or drink more and more and more and I used to tell him to sit down and relax. It wasn't until many years later that I realized how rewarding it is to see your family gathered around your table and seeing them laugh and joke and enjoy what you have prepared for them.
Sometimes when I look at old cookbooks I think of the time when my son was in his early teens and was going through a "Grilled Cheese" phase. It was pretty much all he was happy to eat at that time....and he would often complain about what was for dinner because he just wanted a dadgum grilled cheese sandwich. He had this friend who was constantly over for dinner and I didn't know if the poor kid was starving or if he really thought I was a good cook....but he always ate his food and also whatever Kevin wouldn't eat. So one evening I had made some country pork ribs in the crock pot....and Kev is all "YUK! This tastes like CAT FOOD!" and his friend is just gobbling it up and telling me YUM YUM how good it is...LOL! So I tell Kev...."Okay wise guy....since when do you know what cat food tastes like????" And Kev tells me......"Since I tasted this food". So he gets his grilled cheese and is a happy camper....and I think that was the last time I used that crock pot recipe....LOL!
Lately I've been getting my old cookbooks and scribbling things in pencil like "Winner winner chicken dinner!" and "Whoo hooo! Doesn't taste like cat food!" Just because I think that years from now someone out there might get ahold of one of my old cook books--- read it and get a giggle or two :)
Hope ya'll are having a great weekend !

Obsessive Behaviors
Okay....sometimes we wonder why in the world are some people so obsessive in their behavior.????
...be it.....for a few examples---
obsessing about a lovers' past loves...
or
obsessing about someone who dared to disagree with you...
or
obsessing about one topic they are currently obsessed with
( and they are posting over and over and over on venues about the same thing over and over and over)...
and I am often thinking why does this happen and why can't these peeps simply move on???
But I think at the end of the day we often realize that some people do not think the way that we ourselves might tend to think is the "normal behavior" of thinking....
here is one example of something that will always stick in my mind until the day I die as a good example of extremely unusual and obsessive behavior....
okay....
someone I know...was involved in a relationship with someone who had previous relationships with others.... but hey guess what?...she also had had many many relationships with others....okay so flash forward to when she became super duper obsessive about one person from her "loved ones'" past----she actually sent one of her step children up to the door of a complete stranger one day in a "muse" of selling "Girl Scout" cookies....just so she could get a glimpse of who answered the door and assure herself that the former one had not moved into her neighborhood....
to me.....if she really thought that the gal had moved into her neighborhood ---
uhmmm HELLO?? QUACKADOODLE DOOO????....
here's a clue----
go knock on the dang door yourself.....don't hide in your SUV and involve dadgum kids in on your obsessive behavioral tendencies!.....
but hey....that was my opinion of the way she acted then and has often acted since then. WHEW!
So we might judge someone like this and think that we would never act in this manner....
but we really don't know what is going through the minds' of people like this....and what they are actually thinking.....all we know is that we question their manner of reasoning....and at the end of the day....
that might indeed be all that we really know.
And believe it or not...even though I am often very in your face with all of my wacky-ness...and will flat out tell you that hey I am sometimes a bit "CRAY cray"....BOTTOM-line----I have always been in your face CRAY CRAY....
not hiding in the closet crazy and trying to convince the rest of the world that I am something I am not...LOL!
I guess with this rambling for the day...what I am trying to get at....is that I have had a few instances in my life where I tried to resolve a problem.....because yes...that is actually what I really am pretty dog gone good at.....and people do still to this day ask me for advice when they are having problems....they seem to think that I still have a "voice of reason" to offer them (LMAO!)....okay...but every once in awhile....you just expect the other person to at least meet you somewhere in the middle if you actually want to resolve any type of issue you may have with them.....or you just need to figure out how to walk away and never look back in that rear-view mirror...because sometimes....once you cross that line and find out what is really going on...you may never want to deal with certain peeps ever again.
And it doesn't necessarily make you right and them wrong....it only means that they no longer have a place in your life where you might choose to allow them to bring any of their obsessive negativity into it...
and moving on and letting go....
it is indeed harder for them thar obsessive personalities....
some people will never ever admit that they have done anything wrong...they always want to blame others for their unhappiness or their misgivings and unless you are willing to lie and tell them that they are "right".....
you really do need to just walk away.
I know that sometimes it is hard..especially if you have always had a way of resolving certain issues......
but sometimes......
just letting it go and walking away.....
is the only way to put these type of people and their obsessive behaviors....
behind you.
And that is just my rambling for the day.
Peace ya'll :)

Yeahhhh the new kitchen tile is finished whoo hoo
So the kitchen tile is finished and I have to say that I really love it. It is really low maintenance and the less time I have to spend cleaning these days....means more time for other me stuff :)
During the fishing derby my hubby stopped shaving and he said he wasn't going to shave again until the kitchen floor was done...I had started calling him "Man Mountain Mike" and now he has shaved his grizzly Adamness again :)
Here is a pic of the tiles and the best part to me is that we did it ourselves :)
Here is a pic of my little "wire lady" that I think I have had for just about forever and a day :)...today I gave her a "new old necklace" and added a different vintage flower brooch to her attire....
And here are a couple of pics of this old craft table I had out back....it is a pub height table and I think it had about 54 different colors of spray paint on the top of it as I have often used it to sit things on and spray paint out side....but for some reason I got this bug up my rear to bring it back inside the house and use it again....
so I covered the table top with some old vintage fruit fabric....painted the legs and sides.....then tossed a few of my vintage ads on top of the fabric and placed a piece of glass on top of it all. Because of the glare on the glass I don't think the pics turned out all that well...but just wanted to share the idea in case anyone else out there has an old piece of furniture with a damaged or marred top.....yes you can cover it in one of your favorite fabrics....and then purchase a piece of glass to place on top of it. Since I work in a furniture store....I normally have access to nab spare glass tops at random LOL! but this table was a bit of an odd size for the glass I had on hand and our local mom and pop hardware store "Floyd's"....actually only charged $39.99 for this glass topper which is actually thicker than a lot of the beveled ones available in my furniture catalogs. I was actually quite impressed with the price of the glass :)
Man I can't believe that it is almost Friday already and that it is May already :).....
hope ya'll are having a great month so far :)

Western Holly Decoupaged Vintage Frying Pan
I have a lot of old utensils hanging around in my kitchen....and the other day....when I was looking through and old "Household" vintage magazine...I saw this image of a little boy in his overalls with his lunch pail heading out to his first day of school....I figured I might as well make something out of it:)
I used an old Western Holly vintage frying pan for the base and added a few flowers as well.
