New Old Hollywood glam upcycled table and more projects gettin' er done

So starting off with my fave of the ones I worked on today.....
this old table reminded me of Old Hollywood when we got it quite awhile back....it sat outside collecting dust until yesterday when I started in with the decoupage.....and I really like the new look....

I still have a few more coats of varnish to add to the top but the copies of the old Hollywood images along with a few vintage theater tickets....are looking like they are ready to glam it up in someone's new home for a few more years to come :)......and yep it took awhile to cut out all of those images and carefully place them on top of the old table....but I really think the end result was worth the time and effort.

here's a small half moon table I also did at the same time....the top of this little table was covered in glue and looked kind of harsh.....I decoupaged a piece of an old vintage map on top and think it looks pretty sweet.

A couple of weeks ago I purchased some fab vintage fabric from my buddy Robin @ Etsy any old time along with some other fabric that I have a plan for.  Hubby had made me promise that I would not paint these chairs as I originally thought of doing them up in a turquoise....

So I compromised with the hub and settled on a black stain and think that the fabric from Robin while definitely vintage....certainly gave these old chairs a new Pop!

This old Stackmore chair had some damage to the seat covering...

I left the original seat intact but covered it with some vintage light green polka dot fabric and then added a pillow I made from some vintage owl fabric that I scored awhile back...

Hubby brought this old table home the other day....and poor thing was looking quite trasherized....

but after a little chalk paint and a crown image in white chalk pen.....I think it is ready to live another regal life in someone's life :)

Looks like a bit of rain is in the forecast and headed our way.....need to get a few more projects completed this weekend ....hope ya'll have a fab one!

Red and Black table and chairs DIY today's doins

I started on this one yesterday and finished with the wax on the chairs today.  This table and chairs were painted with a dark brown enamel when I bought it the other day.  I added some black stain and then some red chalk paint and then scuffed it up pretty good.
I put a couple of coats of clear poly on the table top. 
I like the legs on this one!

 I bought these old metal and plastic chairs quite awhile back and hubby painted them flat black.  They were a dingy faded pale brown color and probably were pretty decent looking back in their hey-day.  I think they look kind of cute paired with this bright metal table that we painted yesterday.

Am working on a little kids table...still a bit of day light left.  I should get pics of it up sometime this week, :=) Hope ya'll had a nice day!

Todays' Doins

Feels like I actually got a bit accomplished today...my dogs are sure barking both literally and figuratively hah!
Got some new stuff painted and finished up some recycled projects to take to the Mall.
First I finished this old beauty shop chair...quite comfy actually. Today I finished the last layer of paint. Wish I had gotten a before pic of this.  It was an ugly dirty white which had turned beige in places vinyl. So I shot it with some sky blue spray paint.  Then cut out circles from some sticker paper and painted black on top of that. Today I added the white design using a filigree stamp. Then a couple of coats of clear....and I kind of like how it turned out.

I had bought this old Lane end table from a church bazaar awhile back and the bottom brown part was really dinged up but I like the faux alligator turquoise top.

I think I have mentioned a few times how much I like orange and blue together :)

From that same Church bazaar I had purchased this old school desk

The bottom of the legs were rusty and the top was pretty dinged up .I had started painting yellow on the top and remembered to stop and take a before pic.
So I sanded the top after waxing it because I wanted it to kind of look like a chalk board....

Hubby painted this old oak stand for me....I took this pic while he was painting the shelves

My favorite and actually easiest project of the day was this awesome mid century table that hubby bought yesterday at an estate sale for $3. A light sanding on the top and then a bit of stain and a bit of wax and now it looks like something Don Draper might be happy to sit an ashtray on :)

Here's a couple more random pics that I took simply because they made me smile. I can't keep everything that makes me smile tho.....my house is tiny :) I racked my brain trying to remember who Huckleberry Hounds' side kick was.  I finally had to google it to remember Quick Draw McGraw.

There are so many neat little "shops" at the antique mall....here are a couple of things I was drooling over this afternoon

Cat Lady Decoupage Table and Nugget in the Sunday Shade

Yesterday we went to the Antique Mall to tidy things up a bit and take a few more pieces.  I tend to cringe before entering my little spot waiting to see if anything is broken.  This trip the only damage  was the glass in an altered picture frame. I don't understand how parents let their children run around unattended in Antique Stores or any store for that matter....would tar and feathering be out of the question here? LOL!  
Seriously though even at the furniture store I can't begin to count the times when parents walk in and their kids are eating ice cream cones or the dreaded Cheetos. Can you imagine how much damage those orange fingers can do to for instance a cream colored sofa? Even the signs on the doors with "No Food Or Drinks Allowed" does not seem to deter some of them. I would imagine if I ever showed up knocking on the front door of their house with a butt load of chocolate covered ice cream cones and a party size bag of Cheetos and said "Hey let's have a party on your sofa!" ... it might be a different story indeed. :=)
So I finally finished up the Cat Lady decoupage table that I had started on a couple of months ago.  It just didn't seem to be going in the direction that I was happy with so it just sat there on the back patio and yesterday morning I decided to simply finish it and move it on out.  I added some gold glitter wash to the final surface and it does have a nice little glow when it catches the sun light.... not sure if the pics show the glow though..

When we got home the weather was so nice that I spent most of the rest of the day out in the front yard pulling weeds and planting seeds. I love to relax out in my little garden/front yard.  Nugget had the right idea though...he found him a nice little spot in the shade and was just chillaxin' in the breeze....

I could learn a lot from our dogs.  Sometimes I do wonder what the heck are they thinking when they pester and won't leave me alone.  Water? check----food? check-----scratched your belly for the umpteenth time? check. Instead of the Dog Whisperer sometimes I think a dog psychic would come in handy.  Wouldn't that make a nice reality show?  I can picture it now.... 
"Hey lady he's trying to tell you that Doggy Biscuits give him a bad case of GAS."

A new old Piano Stool thanks to a little paint decopauge and The Graphics Fairy :)

My Nephew Larry has been buying a lot of old stuff at "storage auctions" and estate sales and he cracks me up because he is always stopping when he sees people on the corners with stuff set out for sale.  It's in our DNA I guess. There's just no getting around it....you either love doing this kind of thing or you simply think it's a waste of time messing with old junk....LOL!  So the other day at work I took home a couple of pieces that he had bought....and today....my day off I had time to re-do the first one.
This old piano stool with ball claw feet was pretty cracked and jacked.  

 So I first got out the sander and went to town on the top of the stool.  I also filled in the big crack with some "caulk" and then went back and sanded that down.  Then came some white paint that I mixed with some beige paint.  And then some blue paint mixed with more of the white paint that I had a big bucket of in the garage. (Use what you have is my motto whenever you can ..you don't have to run out and buy something new to make something new.) It's pretty simple...as you are painting--- simply rub out some areas...rub harder in some areas than others..to get that distressed look with the original wood showing through.
I also have this old "sea sponge " that I am constantly using on just about everything.  To me...the best part about sponging is that you can actually very easily cover up "mistakes" :=)
So for the top of the stool....I went to my favorite on-line go-to when I am too lazy to search my own images.....

She has an amazing blog (one of my all time favorite blogs LOL ) with free images and a lot of inspiring tips and info.
She has a great tutorial there about copying onto tissue paper and adding it to a project....(which is what I did for the center image)...I used some white polka-dot tissue paper and I really like the way the dots show thru the finished image.
For the other images...I simply used some more of the Graphic Fairy's great graphics....printed them out....put some decoupage on the top of the stool.....burnished the image...and peeled away the paper.  Some of the paper whenever  I use this method always "sticks"....I'm not sure if I am just too slow-mo these days or what....but it is pretty easy to wet your fingers and "touch up" what you don't want to leave on your project.  Just don't rub too hard.....until you get the hang of it....you yourself will know when it "feels just right" :=)
So then I stamped on some gold tone  ink and I added one more coat of decoupage to the top of the stool before I sprayed it a few times with clear gloss.  I myself tend to always spray things a bit heavy so I make it a point to stand further away from the item I am clear coating :=)
Last...I added some polyurethane to the top of the stool. (I also want to add from my own experience that when I am using things like polyurethane....to me....it is much easier to apply it with a piece of an old tee...or rag....I used to always fight the finish if I was using a brush....and a nice soft old rag makes it so much easier to apply the final coat.)
