Recycled Container For Succulents Memorial Day Fun

I hope you all have had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!
The weather here in Bakersfield has been fantastic and I spent a lot of time outside in my little garden this weekend.  I love getting my hands dirty and had so much fun with our dogs out in the yard while I was working..I laughed soo much this weekend ..and what a great time it has been---
am getting ready to make a marinade for some fish tacos---but I wanted to share with you
a recycled container that I did today----  I really like  the end results :)

I had this "waterfall " piece that the pump went out on awhile back---I didn't throw it away--I knew it could be re-purposed for something---

today--hubby drilled some drain holes and I filled it up with succulents and moss---- and I really like it better now    than when the "waterfall" was actually working :)

1910 Ford Model R 100 Year Old Thoughts For The Day

I got this e-mail today ...and even though I have lots of old antique and vintage stuff..and love the blasts from the past....reading this E-mail was really a kick and I wanted to share it with you here

Show this to your friends, children and/or grandchildren!

" This will boggle your mind, I know it did mine!
The year is 1910 One hundred one years ago. What a difference a century makes!
Here are some statistics for the Year 1910:
************ ********* ************
The average life expectancy for men was 47 years.
Fuel for this car was sold in drug stores only.
Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.
The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower !
The average US wage in 1910 was 22 cents per hour.
The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year.
A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, A dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian
between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births took place at HOME.
Ninety percent of all Doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION!
Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press '
Sugar cost four cents a pound.
Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.
Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo.
Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason.
The Five leading causes of death were:

1. Pneumonia and influenza

2. Tuberculosis

3. Diarrhea

4. Heart disease

5. Stroke

The American flag had 45 stars.
The population of Las Vegas , Nevada , was only 30!
Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented yet.
There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.
Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write and only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.
Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores.
Back then pharmacists said, 'Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health'

( Shocking? DUH! )

Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.

There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE U. S. A. !

I am now going to forward this to someone else without typing it myself. From there, it will be sent to others all over the WORLD - all in a matter of seconds!

Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years."

How to Kill Mosquitoes - NOT A JOKE

I got this in an e-mail today and have never tried it but plan on doing so this summer and had to pass it on here.

"You may be aware of this, but I thought it was worth looking at again “How to Kill Mosquitos - NOT A JOKE “

I can't wait to try this in the summer!
I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared. The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes. And voila! That worked as well. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children's swing area, and the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don't leave home without it....Pass it on.

OUR FRIEND'S COMMENTS: I tried this on my deck and around all of my doors. It works - in fact, it killed them instantly. I bought my bottle from Target and it cost me $1.89. It really doesn't take much, and it is a big bottle, too; so it is not as expensive to use as the can of Bug-spray you buy that doesn't last 30 minutes. So, try this, please. It will last a couple of days. Don't spray directly on a wood door (like your front door), but spray around the frame. Spray around the window frames, and even inside the dog house. EARTH FRIENDLY TOO!!! "

And I myself look at it this way...
if any of those pesky critters survive the Listerine attack least they will have decent breath when they bite you :)

The Magical Lucky Tampon....

I honestly think that the older I get the more fun I have with being silly .... and today was no exception...
My Hubby and I went to play Bingo....and if you are not familiar with play the game with bingo dobbers (if you are playing on paper)....
So....hubby has his cards spread out on the table and while he is super concentrating on his paper and numbers....I whip  a Tampon out of my purse and I start "dobbing" his paper telling him "Oh gosh missed a couple of numbers!"--so he says "O.M.G.!" ... and laughs and turns red...and I get a kick about being so goofy....
But I'm not done yet....about 30 minutes later---I pop the same Tampon out of my purse and say "Hunny you have some wax in your ears...let me clean that out for you"  And I start poking the Tampon in his ear....and of course all he can say again is "O.M.G.!"
And of course I'm still not done yet!  About an hour later I take out my trusted Tampon once again and I wave it all over his bingo papers..then I tap him several times on the forehead with my Tampon and say "This is a lucky magic wand..may the good luck bingo fairies be with you!"  And of course I get another "O.M.G."!!! (I love making him laugh)
He didn't win but I won one special for $500 and one game for $250 I think my magic Tampon was mighty powerful today! LOL

Dob On!  Spread the Luv and laughter!

Ever Wake Up In The Wrong Bed?

Funny chit from my GF Sandra!!!.....

The wrong bed? LOL!!!

Am I A Vintage Hoarder? LOL!

Okay... I guess I can joke about it..but sometimes I really ask myself if I am a vintage hoarder?  My goal in the past few years is to share my things that I have aquired through-out the years and to pass them on to others (who will hopefully like them as much as I did)...but I just have a hard time "giving the stuff away" on eBay now..:(..and have been bummed out about the ones who get great deals and then whine or try to create drama if they also sell vintage on the site)
I often tell myself that I am better off just keeping most of it in containers and when I am kids - grandkids etc. can do what they may with it....I want to share...I just want to share with people who love vintage I guess heh-heh..and if I don't get that just makes me want to keep it all packed away!
Tons  of the things I have like this necklace that I just listed on Zibbet...

Plastic lavender purple vintage beads old necklace from Spanky Luvs Vintage.

This beautiful necklace is 15" long and in good vintage condition. I have been saving it to dismantle the piece and re-create something else but I just can't quite do it I am offering it here :)

YET..I find myself more often than not these days  dismantling excellent good vintage pieces and making "newer" things out of them because I do not wish to give them away .... and if I can't bring myself to dismantle them...I put them back in the containers...LOL!!! yes I guess I really am a vintage hoarder!

My Big Bro In The Little Luv Bug

Okay so my older bro D.W. is the typical example of the "mid-life crisis" scenario :) But he seems really happy now and I am happy for him.  During the day..he rolls around in a gas guzzling Hummer and a big Ford truck .
So his girlfriend Stacy had always wanted a convertable VW.....and he bought her one on eBay..... this weekend they brought it out to the family barbeque.  I'm telling ya it was soooo funny to see him driving this little car! I really got a kick out of it . When they were leaving I was like "Wait I've got to come and get a picture of you 2 in the Bug!" Stacy says "Okay but let me get my scarf on." And of course I told her "If you're in the Bug've  got to flash the Peace Sign."  I am glad they are having fun :)

Mothers Are Full Of Some Of The Most Wonderful Adjectives I Know :)

I honestly can't think of anything
that is more unique
or special  in ones' life ..
than a  LOVING Mother...
They are definitely full
of some of the most
 wonderful adjectives
that I can think of....
The warmth of a Mothers' smile
can  help melt away any sadness.
There is nothing stronger
than a mothers' arms
when she embraces
you with her hugs.
Those lips hold all the magic
to kiss away all of the "owies"
and "boo-boo's" that cross
your path along the way.
The magnificent hands that
can do
and do for
and make sooo many
things for her family.
That wonderful place
inside of her heart
only for her children and grandchildren.
More vicious than a Lioness
when it comes to
protecting her own.
She can teach you things
you will never ever
learn in libraries
or at school.
The secrets that you share
will indeed be more
confidential and
than all of the
locks and keys
at Fort Knox.
Owning a home
in your Mothers' arms
is better than the most
coveted land
that money could ever buy.
LOVE GODDESS-------------
She will never stop loving you
 no matter what you do.
FANTASTIC FAN------------
Even if you are the most
recognized person
in the Universe
your momma will
be your biggest fan.
She is there when you need her...
and even after she is gone
from this Earth...
she will always
be in your heart.
You will never forget her
and you will pass on all the
qualities that she has
in you to
your own children.
A Mothers' love is
never ending.
It will carry on through
and to your children
and your childrens' children
the end of time.!
Yes! These are all the things my momma taught me ...and I only hope I am a better person because I was soo blessed to have such a wonderful MOM!  (A few adjectives describing me is all I think I deserve in the long-run)-------------- LOL!
Spanky Luvs Her Momma 2011
Sending a huge shout-out to all the Mothers out there! I hope you all have a wonderful Mothers' Day tomorrow. And in remembrance of all the wonderful Mothers who have come and gone before us---
we will never forget you! :)

Etsy is Rolling out a New version of the listing process? Seriously????

Okay so here is the thread and I am like again thinking
"Things that make you go WOW" ???

This was my reply to this "wonderful new change that Etsy is Rolling-out"...GEEE---can you tell I was simply not on the band wagon? LOL---

Aw ...I would first expect this site to fix the problems that allow re-sellers and non-hand made and non-vintage items to be featured on the front page before tweaking the listing process...

I would also secondly..

Know ---that just because someone says it is so----only opens up the door for more mis-respresentation----(the non-honest people will gladly fill in the blanks about the era --lol!)

My expectations are that Etsy would clean up the site and take action on the flaggings BEFORE implementing any new FEATURES that in my opinion just adds to the clutter of things they haven't already fixed---

For example----

Let's see---sooo many buyers and sellers here FLAG items that totally violate the current TOU's--- but these same items are still HERE and indeed landing on the FRONT page---

Okay---- so who NOW will be here to Police the "era" and document what the vintage seller claims to be a fact?....

When the FACT is that sooo many items here already indeed fall into the "not" categories----

To me this is just adding more muck into the mess---

First and Foremost....

clean up the CURRENT listings---

Then tweak and change whatever can make the site better....

JMO :) .......

Osama Bin Laden Dead: Was Killing The Al Qaeda Leader Legal? Or simply KARMA?

GEEE...Excuse me!  if I have a bit of a hard time about people actually questioning the legality of the killing of Bin Laden
Osama Bin Laden Dead: Was Killing The Al Qaeda Leader Legal?

Uhmmm...what I am thinking about instead are these images.....was that legal ????
I'd say Bin got his karma....and I have faith in karma...not faith in legality...not faith in right or wrong (about him being dead now and how it happened) ....just TOTAL faith in karma..that is all I can say about "He is dead was it legal?"
You'll indeed get what's coming to you....What comes around goes around...Do unto others as you expect them to do unto you....I'd say he got it easy compared to what he did unto others.... I.M.O----he should have been totally tortured before his demise----he's lucky it was over sooo fast------
Of course that's just my a  laymans'  world  :)!

Gentle Thoughts for Today Funny Email

I got this Email today as well and it made me smile:) ...thanks Sandra ! :)....

Gentle Thoughts for Today -

Birds of a feather flock together . . . .and then shit on your car.

A penny saved is a government oversight.

The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight, because by then your body and your fat have gotten to be really good friends.
The easiest way to find something lost around the house is to buy a replacement.

He who hesitates is probably right.

Did you ever notice: The Roman Numerals for forty (40) are XL.

If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.

The sole purpose of a child's middle name is so he can tell when he's really in trouble.

Did you ever notice: When you put the 2 words 'The' and 'IRS' together it spells 'Theirs...'

Aging: Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to your youth, think of Algebra.

You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.

One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice change from being young. Ah, being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.

Lord, Keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth . . . . . . . . AMEN!
The hand over my mouth deal.... yes !I need that quite often lol!

Medical Alert: Worse than bedbugs ...

I got this e-mail today and I hope others out there will find it as funny as I did and pass it on for a laugh or 2 :)

Medical Alert: Worse than bedbugs ...

Naked Men on Etsy Burt Reynolds 1972 Cosmopolitan Magazine Vintage

1972 Complete Cosmopolitan Magazine featuring Mr. naked Burt Reynolds as the Centerfold---from Spanky Luvs Vintage on Etsy

I will never forget that exact moment----

I was grocery shoping with my momma...I was 11 or 12 years old---and I remember her excitement---Whoo hoo! A naked man! There was finally a naked man in the mags for women to fantasize about ! She bought it (told me about it) and brought it home....

this is it...!!! I still remember how excited she was that day----(to me a milestone about naked men ---)

Burt took us there :) LOL thanks !! Mr. sexy 1972 Burt Reynolds! Thanks again! You were definitely Mr. Hottie ! in 1972--yes it was you! ...and I think many many women might have ruined MANY of those centerfolds...just dreaming about you LOL!

This mag is in pretty good condition.....considering the fact that my mom was pretty much salivating that one FINE day when "Burt" Blew her away :) LMAO!!!! ..This has tons of great vintage ads....but the centerfold is the "eye -candy" here LOL!

Spring Has Sprung

A lovely dove couple has been nesting in one of my hanging pots on the porch for about ten years now. Almost every year either a blue jay or a cat gets their babies but they keep coming back year after year to give it another try.  I mean these birds are just soooo persistent..they have faith..they do not give up..and I just can't believe they don't look for another place to nest:)  This year 2 dove babies survived and hubby and I got to see the last one in the nest take his final flight from the porch. Small things like this really make me appreciate the beauty and wonder of life I suppose :)

My hollyhocks are starting to bloom. This year I haven't done a lot of re-planting in my little garden like I normally do. I always love the garden this time of year! Just a nice little slice of "goodness" right in front of me.

Easter was a bit of a bummer for me this year (cuz it was the first one without my momma in it) but I know that life goes on and having little Chloe there made it such a wonderful celebration indeed! My sweet niece Ashley has been working in San Diego and we sure do miss having her around. She met Chloe at Easter:)

Kevin Sarah Lexie and Chloe.....
Yes Grandma! The Easter Bunny is REAL :)
Welcome Spring!
